Results
A 7-year-old otherwise healthy girl presented two hours after domestic right eye trauma with stone . the patient complained of painful red eye and foreign body sensation with blurred vision .
on examination , best corrected visual acuity ( BCVA ) was 20/25 . slit-lamp examination , revealed A diffuse conjunctival hyperemia marked with corneal retained foreign body , located near the limbus at the temporal side of the cornea . It was deeply embedded in the corneal stroma with marked perilesional edema . The lesion seemed not perforating and no seidel was found. Anterior chamber and lens were normal. No hypotony was noted on bidigital palpation .
Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography showed a high-signal ovoid lesion with shadowing effect corresponding to the FB. Descemet’s membrane was intact in different scans.
foreign body was removed in the operating room . there was no seidel effect , the wound was sutured with monofil 10.0 , and Postoperative topical antibiotic and steroid eye drops were prescribed.
After a follow up of 10 days the outcome was favorable with gradual resolution of corneal edema and visual acuity improving ( BCVA 20/20)
Conclusion
Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography may be helpful for appropriate decision making and managing of corneal foreign bodies .
