Purpose
Examine the factors predicting the patients’ intention to use telemedicine during COVID-19 pandemic. Most studies have focused on the acceptance of Health Information Technologies (HIT) by physicians and nurses while there is lack of studies on patients’ perception of such systems in Ophthalmology
Setting/Venue
Aristotle University of Thessaloniki/Ophthalmore practice
Methods
A survey measuring perceived usefulness (PU), perceived ease of use (PEOU), and facilitating conditions (FC) was administered to 77 patients with eye diseases at a tertiary referral Ophthalmic centre in Greece, during the first year of COVID-19
Results
Multiple linear regression analysis showed that PU and FC, but not PEOU, predicted eye patients HIT usage intentions
Conclusions
Interventions and communication efforts should highlight the benefits of HIT in ophthalmology and provide the appropriate support and means to facilitate its use during and after the pandemic. This could overcome limitations and improve medical diagnoses, patient communication and treatment adherence
