Purpose

To analyze the visual and refractive outcomes obtained in low myopia and low astigmatism correction using phakic implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation. To obtain the efficacy, security index and describe the accuracy of ICL implantation on subjects with myopia under -4D and refractive cylinder lower than -2D Cyl.

Setting

Data was obtained from patients undergoing refractive surgery with ICL implantation at Clinica Vista Villoria (Pontevedra, Spain) between 2018 and 2021.

Methods

Retrospective analysis of the pseudo-anonymized data from myopic patients undergoing refractive surgery with ICL implantation in myopia under -4D and refractive cylinder lower than -2D cyl at Clinica Vista Villoria, with a minimum follow-up of 12 months. For astigmatic correction higher than 1D, a toric ICL lens was selected. Visual acuity, refractive outcomes, vault, and intraocular pressure (IOP) was assessed at months 1, 6 and 12 after the surgery. Only one eye of each operated subject was selected randomly and included in this study.

Results

95 eyes from 95 patients were included in the analysis. Mean refraction preop was -2,39 ± 1,09 D sph and -1,38 ± 1,04 D cyl. Mean ICL power -3,71 ± 1,38 D sphere, and 45,3% of lenses were toric ICL. 1 month after surgery mean refraction was -0,04 ± 0,11 sphere and -0,12 ± 0,21. Mean Vault 1 month was 649,58 ± 211,77 and intraocular pressure remained stable in the 12 months of follow up. Efficacy and security indexes after 12 months of follow up were 1,00 ± 0,11 and 1,01 ± 0,11.

Predictability in spherical equivalent and cylinder correction was 99.1 and 93.5% respectively.

Conclusions

ICL implant in low myopia combined with low astigmatism correction is a safe, effective and predictable process, reporting excellent refractive and visual results.
