Purpose

To assess the post operative stability of implantable contact lens (ICL) vaulting

Setting

Private Eye Hospital, India

Methods

A retrospective study where subjects implanted with ICL for myopic correction by single surgeon and age between 18 to 50 years old was included. Subjects with history of previous ocular surgery, ocular diseases like glaucoma, iritis, cataract of any grade, subjects with missing data were excluded. OptoVue anterior OCT was used to measure the vault. The central vault was measured using inbuilt caliper at post Operative 1 day, 1 month and 12 months.  Central vault was defined as distance between the thinnest location at the posterior surface of ICL and anterior lens surface.

Results

21 eyes of 11 patients with mean±SD age of 22.91±3.56 years were included. The Mean±SD post operative vault at 1 day, 1 month and 1 year was 638.1±192.1, 558.2±186.1, 478.6±159.9 respectively. One way ANOVA revealed significant reduction in post op vaulting at 1 year as compared 1 month. (F=4.13, p=0.021).

Conclusions

We noted significant reduction in ICL valuting over one year. However long term data would be insightful to know the vaulting trend and stability, for anterior lens capsule integrity.
