Purpose
To demonstrate a novel technique to remove silicon oil through the transpupillary route
Setting
tertiary eye care centre in New Delhi, India
Methods
Post Vitreo-retinal surgery, silicon oil has traditionally been removed through the pars plana route, requiring a posterior segment surgeon and a second surgery. We describe a novel way of removing the silicon oil, through posterior capsular capsulorrhexis after phacoemulsification.
Results
This minimally invasive, shorter duration technique leads to rapid visual rehabilitation. Long term results show no adverse effects on the corneal endothelium.
Conclusions
This minimally invasive, shorter duration technique leads to rapid visual rehabilitation. Long term results show no adverse effects on the corneal endothelium.
