Purpose

To investigate cases of ciliary body cysts as a possible aetiology for abnormal vaults after implantable collamer
lens (ICL) surgery

Setting

Patients who had vault abnormalities after ICL surgery at our department

Methods

Patients with vault abnormalities after ICL surgery were investigated using UBM to check for presence of ciliary body cysts. There is an emerging body of literature suggesting this pathology as a cause for the abnormally high (or low) vaults

Results

Correlation of incidence of iris cysts with abnormal vaults described, along with statistical analysis

Conclusions

An emerging body of literature suggests that ciliary body cysts are more prevalent than previously thought.
This pathology may need to be identified before surgery, and cases with abnormal ICL positioning might need investigating for this abnormality. This might suggest new modalities for treatment, as rotating the ICL away from the cyst.
