Smile Difficulties….A Good Management Gives You A Good Result

Purpose
To Introduce the intraoperative complications of refractive small incision lenticule extraction and to describe the stepwise management of these complications and approaches to try to minimize these complications
Setting
Methods
It will discuss SMILE difficulties while performing SMILE by inexperience surgeons on patients with myopia and myopic astigmatism and how its management was done. These difficulties including suction loss, lenticular stuck, cap tear and remaining lenticule
Results
A total of 450 eyes were operated upon by inexperience surgeons, with a mean follow up period of 3 months. The intraoperative complications which have been recorded for all patients with good management doesn’t affect the targeted BCVA at the end
Conclusions
SMILE is technically more demanding than excimer based surgical approaches, with a different complication profile. Although complications can occur, most of them are related to inexperience and have a favorable resolution with no lasting effect on the patient's final visual acuity
