Purpose

Evaluation of treatment with a rigid permeable contact lens (RGP) of flatten central cornea following shockwave impact due the nearby the missile explosion. Best uncorrected visual acuity (BUCVA) was 0.7 logMar and best corrected visual acuity was 0.5 logMar. The corneal curvature was unchanged 3 weeks after the incident.

Setting

Ophthalmological Center For Children And Adults Optomed, Chorzów, Poland; 02-03/2022

Methods

A RGP was fitted to restore corneal curvature. We assess corneal parameters using the Pentacam Corneal Topographer (Oculus, Wetzlar, Germany) and anterior OCT. One eye of 23-year-old female was affected.

Results

We achieved complete resolve of the central corneal flattening after 2-week daytime RGP use. After that, the patient had 0.0 logMar BUCVA.

Conclusions

RGP might be considered as a therapeutic option for refractory central corneal flattening after blunt injuries.
