Purpose
To investigate the visual outcomes, spectacle independence, and patient satisfaction after bilateral implantation of a new sinusoidal vision technology trifocal intraocular lens.
Setting
Yozgat Bozok University, Faculty of Medicine, Yozgat, Turkey.
Methods
In this prospective study, 60 eyes of 30 patients having cataract surgery with implantation of AcrivaUD Trinova PRO C trifocal IOL were included. Uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (UDVA, CDVA), uncorrected intermediate and near visual acuity (UIVA, UNVA), and manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) were recorded pre- and postoperatively. Defocus curves, contrast sensitivity under photopic and mesopic conditions, and spectacle independence were also evaluated. All subjects completed a VFQ25 questionnaire.
Results
All eyes showed significant improvement in UDVA, CDVA, UIVA, UNVA, and spherical equivalent at 1 month compared to preoperative values (p<0.05). Contrast sensitivity at each spatial frequency significantly improved 3 months postoperatively. Only 1 patient reported the need for spectacle correction for near activities. All patients reported that they did not use spectacles for distance, intermediate, or near vision and expressed high satisfaction.
Conclusions
The implantation of sinusoidal vision technology trifocal IOL provided good visual performance in all distances, as well as high levels of spectacle independence and satisfaction.
