Purpose
To report preliminary results obtained with first cases implanted with the toric model of the intraocular lens called Intensity (Hanita Lenses).
Setting
Clínica de Ojos Dr. Nano, Olivos. Argentina.
Methods
A prospective non-comparative case series was developed, including eyes that underwent Intensity toric IOL implantation, between January to February 2022 with 1 month of follow-up. The main outcomes were spherical equivalent and cylinder evaluated preoperative, 1 week, and 1 month after surgery. Defocus curve was monocularly evaluated one month after surgery.
Results
As part of this preliminary report, a total of 7 patients (7 eyes), were included (2 men and 5 women), aged 67.3 ±5.7 years (56-75). Preoperative mean SE was 3.05 ±2.6 D (-2.37 to 6.5) and statistically decreased 1 month after surgery to -0.25 ±0.2 D (-0.62 to 0); p<0.005. Preoperative cylinder was 2.17 ±0.4 D (1.5 to 3) which statistically decreased to -0.28 ±0.1 D (-0.5 to 0); p<0.005. Monocular defocus curve for different additions was 0.05 LogMAR for -3.0 D, 0.01 LogMAR for -1.5 D, and -0.04 LogMAR for 0 D, 1 month after surgery.
Conclusions
First eyes implanted with Intensity toric IOL achieved good distance, intermediate and near visual acuity, 1 month after surgery. A longer and larger study is ongoing which will be necessary to confirm the present report.
