Purpose

To evaluate the performance of the Scleral Suturefree Carlevale Intraocular lens (IOL) in the management of aphakia

Setting

Patients needing aphakic correction with insufficient capsular support were offered the Carlevale posterior chamber IOL. A subset of patients were offered a novel sutureless technique using the with fixation of the haptics in a fashioned scleral pocket.

Methods

Twenty four patients in the last 5 years were evaluated retrospectively. The anatomical and refractive stability of the lens was evaluated. Multimodal imaging was used to investigate the eye at each visit.

Results

Results relating to stability and outcomes of patients presented

Conclusions

The Carlevale IOL represents a viable option for correction of aphakia in cases where there is limited capsular support for a traditional secondary IOL
