Purpose

To evaluate defocus curve in eyes implanted with extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOLs.

Setting

Private Eye Hospital, India

Methods

A prospective study where subjects implanted with EDOF IOLs (Acrysof IQ VIVITY, Alcon; Lucidis, SAV-IOL), aged between 40 -75 years, BCVA 0.2logMAR or better was included. Subjects with ocular pathologies, any Intra-operative complications were excluded. At1month follow up, Monocular distance corrected defocus curve measured in each subject using logMAR chart. The visual acuity with each defocus lens ranging from+2.00 to -3.0D (0.5D steps) was measured in randomized order.

Results

30 and 18 eyes were implanted with LUCIDIS and VIVITY respectively. The Mean±SD age of the subjects implanted with PanOptix and VIVITY IOL were 58.17±8.57 and 55.4±11.97 years respectively (P=0.48). Visual acuity with both the IOLs was similar at all defocus levels except at -3.0D where significant difference was noted in visual acuity (p=0.04).

Conclusions

Defocus curve showed VIVITY IOL performed better at near as compared to LUCIDIS IOL.
