Purpose

Visual analysis after the implantation of intraocular lenses (IOL) RayOne EMV® with positive spherical aberration and Tecnis Eyhance ICB00® with negative spherical aberration. Based on visual acuity and contrast sensitivity data under photopic and scotopic conditions.

Setting

The study population is comprised of 100 eyes, 50 patients, who underwent surgery in both eyes with a symmetrical implant. 25 of them underwent surgery with RayOne EMV® lenses and another 25 underwent surgery with Tecnis Eyhance ICB00® lenses in a period of 12 months.

Methods

Twenty-five patients who underwent surgery in both eyes with RayOne EMV® Rayner IOLs, and another 25 patients operated on both eyes with Tecnis Eyhance ICB00® Johnson&Johnson IOLs, are examined. All of them have visual acuity and contrast sensitivity measured 6 months after surgery.

Visual acuity and defocus curve are monitored with the EDTRS optotype at 4 meters and photopic lighting of 85cd/m² and scotopic lighting of 10cd/m². Contrast sensitivity is measured using the CSV-1000HGT chart. At a distance of 2.5 meters (8 feet) with spatial frequencies of 3, 6, 12 and 18 cycles/degree.

Results

RayOne EMV® Rayner Vs Tecnis Eyhance ICB00® Jonhson&Jonhson, at 6 months: PHOTOPIC / SCOTPIC

.-  Binocular defocus curve (HOTSPOTS):

-       Optical infinity or distant vision:

0.05logMAR / 0.05logMAR; 0.05logMAR / 0.05logMAR

-       Intermediate vision 67 cm. (-1.5D):

0.15logMAR / 0.15logMAR; 0.18logMAR / 0.18logMAR

-       Near vision 33 cm. (-3.0D):

0.30logMAR / 0.30logMAR; 0.50logMAR / 0.50logMAR

.-  Sensitivity contrast test:

-       3 cycles/degree: 5.68 / 5.28; 4.96 / 4.88

-       6 cycles/degree: 4.80 / 4.08; 4.36 / 3.92

-       12 cycles/degree: 3.32 / 2.96; 3.16 / 2.48

-       18 cycles/degree: 3.08 / 2.32; 2.2 / 2.04

Conclusions

OPTICAL:

.- Monofocal and fully refractive technology.

.- Non-pupil dependent functional distance and intermediate visión.

.- Positive and negative spherical aberration IOLs maintain stable ex tended focus regardless of lighting conditions.

CLINICAL:

.- 100% of patients report independence from glasses in distant and intermediate vision regardless of light conditions.

.- 100% of patients can read at 40cm. with an addition of +1.50D to +2.00D regardless of IOL spherical aberration.

.- In 100% of patients, contrast sensitivity is within normalized values, regardless of lighting conditions and IOL spherical aberration.
