Purpose
To compare higher order aberrations (HOA) and modulation transfer function (MTF) in eyes implanted with Trifocal and extended depth of focus (EDOF) IOLs.

Private Eye Hospital, India
Methods
A prospective study where subjects implanted with Trifocal IOLs (Acrysof IQ VIVITY, Alcon; Lucidis, SAV-IOL), aged between 40 -75 years, post-operative best corrected visual acuity 0.2logMAR or better, pre operative corneal astigmatism ≤1.50D and cataract grade NS I-III were included. Subjects with any ocular pathologies, irregular astigmatism, previous refractive surgery, and intra-operative complications were excluded. At 1 month follow up, internal HOA (3rd, 4th and 5th order) and MTF at5, 10, 15,20,25,30 cycle per degrees (CPD) were obtained using HOYA i-Trace aberrometer for 4mm fixed pupil and compared between two groups.
Results
30 and 18 eyes were implanted with LUCIDIS and VIVITY respectively. The Mean±SD age of the subjects implanted with LUCIDIS and VIVITY IOL were 58.17±8.57 and 55.4±11.97 years respectively (P=0.48).Higher order aberrations were similar in both IOLs (p>0.05). MTF was found to be higher with LUCIDIS IOL at all spatial frequencies however the difference was not statistically significant.
