Purpose
The aim of this poster is to easily evaluate the visual performances of new generation EDOF IOLs
Setting
CAMO-Centro Ambrosiano Oftalmico located in Milan, Italy
Methods
The defocus curve is performed by adding on trial frame from +1.00 D to -3.00 D lens (in steps of 0.50 D), recording the visual acuity with the different lenses. This procedure is performed both monocularly and binocularly and data are plotted into a grafic with visual acuity values on Y axis and lens dioptric power on X axis
Results
This type of IOL, unlike standard monofocal IOL, provide a good vision up to intermediate distance without compromising far visual acuity. To obtain the maximum reading capabilities, just a reduced ADD is required
Conclusions
The defocus curve is the most precise and effective method for evaluating the depth of focus extension. It helps to understand the real visual acuity that the patient has at a certain distance and to compare the performance of different IOLs design in a more analytical way
