Results
Regression modeling was attempted to identify the demographics, social roles and personality type of the patient most compatible to receive pseudophakic presbyopic correction.120 participants,80 with multifocal presbyopic correction and 40 without. There was no statistical significant difference between the two groups regarding age and gender. 5 characteristics were used to describe personality: extraversion, neuroticism, openness, agreeableness, conscientiousness. There were statistical significant differences in 4 of these, with the multifocal correction group showing a lower percentage in neuroticism και higher percentages in openness, agreeableness and conscientiousness.Overall satisfaction rates were above 88% in the multifocal group.
Conclusions
Apart from the visual outcome, personality plays an important role in the final satisfaction regarding a surgical procedure. The outcomes of this study can contribute to the body of knowledge on the topic of pseudophakic presbyopic correction in order to better understand patients’ needs and requirements. The final aim is to be able to choose the optimal candidates for pseudophakic presbyopic correction, so as to achieve maximum results and better patient satisfaction rates.
