Personalized Ocular Surface Management Using Bio Marker Pathfinder Kit

Higher Levels Of Inflammatory Factors May Have An Impact On Wound Healing Post Refractive Surgery, Dry Eye Disease(DED), Keratoconus(KC) Disease Progression. The Purpose Of Our Study Was To Evaluate The Role Of Rapid, Multiplexed Diagnostic Kit, In Tears Of Patients Undergoing Refractive Surgery, KC And DED Treatment And Ocular Surface Conditions.

Tear Samples Were Collected From 1080 Healthy Controls, 1000 KC And Post- Refractive Surgery Patients , 1300 With Ocular Surface Disease, 500 From Glaucoma, Diabetic Retinopathy And Other Retinal Pathologies . Using A Variant Of The Multiplex ELISA Assay System, We Obtained Specific Cartridges For IL-1b, IL-10, IL- 6 And MMP-9 Measurement In A Single Test. IL-17a, TNF-A, I-CAM1 And VEGF-A Were Incorporated In 2nd Cartridge. Tear Samples From Schirmer’s Strips Were Added To Each Test Cartridge And Inserted Into A Laser Based Detection Platform(ELISA Based) To Determine The Concentration Of The Analyte On The Basis Of A Standard Curve.

IL-6, MMP-9 Were Highest In DED And Subjects With DED As A Co-Morbidity. Interestingly, In KC, Subset Of Subjects Had High MMP9. Interleukin1 Beta And IL10 Was Found Low In Controls But High In Specific Patient Groups. IL-17 A And VEGF-A Were Found To Be Higher In A Specific Set Of Patients With Ocular Surface Conditions, Indicating Use For Treatment Customisation. This Rapid, Multiplexed Kit Detected Analytes With A 75 Min Turn Around Time In The Clinic.

The Efficiency And Short Test Duration Can Significantly Assist For Screening Protocols In Refractive Surgery, Keratoconus And Ocular Surface Conditions. Biomarker Pathfinder Kit Can Thus Enable Us In Customising The Treatment For The Patients Resulting In Effective And Timely Patient Stratification.
