Ocular Measurement Comparison Of Swept-Source Optical Coherence Tomographer Argos, Scheimpflug Imager Pentacam, And Partial Coherence Interferometer Iolmaster

Purpose

To evaluate agreement between various biometric parameters using three measurement devices.

Setting

Silmaasema Turku, Finland

Methods

117 eyes of 59 RLE and cataract patients were measured using the ARGOS, Pentacam, and IOLMaster500. Patients mean age was 69 years, 56% were females. Keratometry (K1 and K2), total cylinder power (CYL), Jackson cross-cylinder J0 and J45, anterior chamber depth (ACD), and axial length with ARGOS and IOLMaster500 (AL) were measured. Right/left eye was analyzed separately. Paired samples T-test or Wilcoxon signed rank test, and Pearson or Spearman correlation co-efficiency were calculated when applicable.

Results

Correlations of keratometry was 0,976-0,997, p<0,001 for all. K1 difference between ARGOS and Pentacam was -0,07D/-0,10D (right/left), p<0,04/p<0,04. K2 difference was -0,07D/-0,05D, p=0,14/p=0,28. Correlations of CYL, J0 and J45 was between 0,625-0,928, p<0,001 for all. ARGOS CYL medians were 0,75D/0,84D, and Pentacam 0,70D/0,80D, p=0,46/p=0,07. ARGOS J0 medians were 0,17/0,21, and Pentacam 0,19/0,19, p=0,18/p=0,92. ARGOS J45 medians were -0,12/-0,03, and Pentacam -0,13/0,01, p=0,83/p<0,001. Correlations of ACD was between 0,935-0,997, p<0,001 for all. ARGOS ACD was 3,25mm/3,27mm, and Pentacam 3,15mm/3,18mm, p<0,001/p<0,001. ARGOS AL medians were 23,51mmm/23,52mm, and IOLMaster 23,47mm/23,49mm, p=0,10/p=0,06.

Conclusions

Correlations of various biometric parameters were high between different devices. Absolute differences between ARGOS and Pentacam were clinically small in keratometry and cylinder power. ARGOS measured anterior chamber depth deeper than Pentacam, and same differences was found between ARGOS and IOLMaster (data on file). ARGOS and IOLMaster gave similar values to axial length.
