The ESCRS iLearn website has been redesigned to improve user experience.
“It is much more appealing visually and we have changed it so that the courses are now organised into four sections. These are Visual Optics, Cataract Surgery, Refractive Surgery and Cornea,” said ESCRS e-learning co-ordinator Brendan Strong.
“It is now easier to navigate through the site and find different courses, and also for any given course you can see a summary before you go into it,” said Mr Strong.
Since its launch in 2011, iLearn has become an increasingly valuable learning tool for ophthalmologists. The goal of the programme is to provide learners with highly interactive, assessed and accredited content that they can use in their own time to complement their own learning.
There are now 1,500 members coming on to the site, 744 trainee members, 424 monthly logins, 168 unique users per month, and 22 courses offering 43 CME points.
Task LIst
Another key innovation to the site is the addition of a “Task List” function which allows mentors to assign courses for residents to take.
“This will be really useful for residents and trainers,” said Mr Strong. “If you are a trainer you can assign courses for your residents to take. Trainers can also get reports so they can see if the residents are taking the courses assigned to them. Trainers can apply deadlines, they can make some courses compulsory and others can be made optional. If a course has not been completed both the trainers and trainees will receive an email informing them that the deadline has passed. They will also receive an email a week before the deadline informing them that the deadline is coming up.”
Since the 19th ESCRS Winter Meeting earlier this year in Istanbul, Turkey, the Cornea Didactic Courses have been updated and each of the four courses has been awarded three European CME credits.
The two Penetrating and Lamellar Keratoplasty courses have also been accredited. A number of other courses will soon be updated including Endophthalmitis, Basic Phaco and IOL Power Calculations After Refractive Surgery.
