Poster winners provide analysis of a broad range of pathologic phenomena

The winners of the 2013 ESCRS Poster Competition were announced at the Opening Ceremony of the 30th ESCRS Congress.

In this year’s Poster Competition, Jan Van Looveren, Belgium, received First Prize in the Cataract Category for “Surprising immunohistochemistry of the vitreolenticular interface in developmental cataracts”. In the presentation, he notes that surgeon’s performing cataract procedures in children often find that the posterior capsule is adherent to the anterior hyaloid and that there is a complete absence of Berger’s space, which makes performing a posterior capsulorhexis very challenging.

First Prize in the Refractive Category went to “Enhanced screening for ectasia susceptibility among LASIK candidates,” by Isaac Ramos, Brazil.

The poster describes a retrospective nonrandomised study that compared 23 eyes that developed ectasia after LASIK to 266 eyes with stable LASIK outcomes after a minimum of 12 months.
