ASCRS honoured Dr Emanuel Rosen at the Opening Session of the 2014 symposium and congress in Boston, USA.
Dr Steve Obstbaum, who headed the ASCRS journal when it merged with the European Society of Cataractt and Refractive Society's journal in 1996, presented the award in recognition of Dr Rosen's excellent leadership as co-editor of the JCRS for the past 18 years. Dr Rosen has relinquished the role of co-editor to Thomas Kohnen MD Phd,Germany who shares the role with Nick Mamalis MD,USA.
"Emanuel has been a leading light in the life of the ESCRS," said Dr Obstaum. "Through the years, there are few ESCRS initiatives that have not been enlightened by his insight or touched by his skillkful management. Indeed, he continues to be a steady and constant influence in the ongoing success of ESCRS," said Dr Obstbaum.
Dr Obstbaum stressed that this was not a fairwell tribute as Dr Rosen now has a new role in the journal as Editor of the Case Reports section. "I believe I speak for Doug Koch and Nick Mamalis, Thomas Kohnen and BJ Dupps, when I acknowledge the joy of working with Emanuel, " he said. "So on behalf of the Executive Committee and the Governing Board of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery it is my distinct pleasure to honour our esteemed colleague Emanuel Rosen," said Dr Obstbaum.
After the presentation, which was greeted with a standing ovation from the audience, Dr Rosen thanked Dr Obstbaum and the ASCRS, and presented Dr Obstbaum with a personally signed copy of the History of the ESCRS, which celebrated the 30th anniversary of the society.
