Best free papers at ESCRS 2017

A group of experts discussed the free paper highlights at the XXXV ESCRS Congress in Lisbon, Portugal. Zoltan Nagy, Filomena Ribeiro, ESCRS President David Spalton and Rudy MMA Nuijts were led by Oliver Findl and Boris Malyugin as they looked at the presentations, which are six-minute submissions allocated to sessions with similar papers. Thomas Neuhann from Germany spoke about Customized patient care: first clinical outcomes with a novel monofocal intraocular lens for individual spherical aberration correction. Sri Ganesh from India discussed Comparison of visual outcomes and optical quality between a 'no-dissection' vs the conventional 'dissection' technique of lenticule extraction in ReLEx SMILE. Peter Hoffmann from Germany spoke about Posterior surface corrected keratometry: comparison of Barrett calculator with other methods, while Austria’s Nino Hirnschall discussed Evaluation of spherical equivalent outcomes of ray tracing based IOL power calculation using exact IOL design information compared with triple optimized Haigis formula. Robert Edward Ang from the Philippines introduced a Clinical performance of a novel modular intraocular lens system and finally, Vijay K. Wagh from the UK spoke about a Randomised controlled trial comparing intrastromal femtosecond laser astigmatic keratotomies to limbal relaxing incisions for the management of corneal astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery: interim results.
