For the first time in its history, the ESCRS has convened its Winter Meeting in Belgrade, Serbia.

Béatrice Cochener, president of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons with Branislav Djurovic, president Serbian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons at the 22nd ESCRS Winter Meeting in Belgrade, Serbia For the first time in its history, the ESCRS has convened its Winter Meeting in Belgrade, Serbia. The meeting, held in conjunction with the Serbian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, opened at the Sava Centar, Milentija Popovica, yesterday. There were very good attendances at Cornea Day (organised in conjunction with EuCornea) the Young Ophthalmologists Programme and the Cataract Surgery, Refractive Surgery and Basic Optics Didactic Courses. There were also Cornea and Refractive Free Paper Sessions, a Moderated Poster Session and a symposium on “Traumatic Cataract: A Never Ending Story”. “I would like to thank everyone involved for their contribution to the scientific programme,” said Béatrice Cochener, President, ESCRS. “With so much on offer, it will be impossible to attend every session. However, if you log on to the Education Portal on the ESCRS website, you can access the sessions and didactic courses on ESCRS On Demand and ESCRS iLearn. I hope you find the Meeting beneficial and rewarding, and that you enjoy your time in Belgrade,” said Dr Cochener. The Meeting continues today with Cornea, Cataract Surgery and Refractive Surgery Didactic Courses, a Free Paper session and a Moderated Poster Session. For the first time the European Society of Ophthalmic Nurses and Technicians will hold an ESONT Didactic Day and The Serbian Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery has also organised a “Near Live Surgery” session. Delegates are also encouraged to attend the symposia today, which will discuss hot topics “Combined Cataract Surgery” and “Correction of Astigmatism in Cataract Surgery”. A prize of €1,000 is awarded to the best Cataract and Refractive ePoster presentations of the Meeting. The prizes will be awarded at 11.25 today in Blue Hall.
