Back to work - lessons learned
"At the Virtual ESCRS Meeting in October 2020, I spoke about the return to work in the COVID-19 era. We were on an upward trajectory after returning to work on 18th May 2020 and hoping that things would remain that way. Now, in December 2020 and early January 2021, we find ourselves in the 2nd and 3rd waves of COVID-19," said Dr Cummngs.
"Several practices that were put in place with the first lockdown continue to allow us to practice better and safer medicine than before," he said. "
Specific challenges exist with the current situation with more cases of COVID-19 in the community and media, yet we are working now where the last time things were this bad, we were totally locked down and not doing any elective procedures. My presentation will feature the current socio-economic climate and its impact on practice, consumer confidence, financial considerations from the patient and clinic perspective, clinic and surgery cancellations, and other specific challenges being faced and met now. I will also allude to how we hope the vaccination rollout programme will benefit society and ophthalmic practice."
