Abstract Details

A Cystitome, fashioned with a 26 G needle has two bends. A primary bend at the shaft of the needle and a secondary one at the bevel. The angulation of each of these bends will depend on the anterior chamber depth. The paper discusses this aspect of customisation and elaborates an easy way to achieve this. Capsulorrhexis will now be totally under our control.

Vasan Eye Care hospital, Chennai, Tamilnadu, India

various templates were created to fashion the primary and secondary bends in a conventional cystitome, based on the anterior chamber depth obtained by immersion ultrasound biometry. The AC depth were graded as Shallow, Shallow to normal, Normal, Normal to deep and Deep. The templates were created with a geometry set for each of the above depths. Rhexis performed in a 100 consecutive cases with varying AC depths were studied.

The pre-prepared cytitomes were ETO sterilised and used during surgery for the creation of capsulorrhexis. The rhexis was completed with ease , keeping the wrist in a natural neutral position without having to hyperextend or super pronate it. The rhexis was completed successfully in all cases

having a structured, customised way of creating the cystitome for performing capsulorrhexis based on geometrically created templates that took the AC depth into account can be a real game changer when it comes to easily and successfully completing the capsulorrhexis
