Abstract Details

To compare the outcomes of anterior chamber and retropupillary fixation of vaulted or artisan iris claw freedom intraocular lens for the management of aphakia due to subluxation or dislocation of lens and surgically induced conditions.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India

Prospective, randomized, single blinded study in which 50 aphakic eye patients were enrolled.patients were randomly divided into two - a patients received anterior chamber fixated vaulted iol implantation. Group-b patients recieved retro-pupillary vaulted iol implantation.preoperative and postoperative best corrected visual acuity(bcva), intraocular pressure(iop), and all other complications were noted and compared at 1 year follow up.

There was a significant improvement in bcva(p< 0.05) observed in both the groups. 4 patients in group-a and 3 patients in group-b had transient , non significant and non permanent rise of iop levels. 6 patients in group -a had iris discoloration.2 patients in group-a and 1 patient in group-b had irregular patient observed better cosmesis.

The results were not significantly different between the the two implantation techniques for vaulted iris-claw intraocular lens.but slightly less complications and better cosmesis was observed in the retropupillary iris-claw iol implantation.the surgical technique is purely dependent on surgeon experience and ocular condition.
