The visual quality after implantation of bioanalogic intraocular lens in cataract and presbyopic patients

Clinical evaluation of functional results and quality of vision after bilateral implantation of a bioanalogic, polyfocal, accommodative intraocular lens.

The analyzed group consisted of 20 eyes in 10 presbyopic patients (6 man and 4 women, mean age 57,8) implanted with bioanalogic intraocular lens WIOL-CF (Medicem, Cz). Follow-up was 12-24 months. Uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity for distance, intermediate and near vision, subjective refraction, glare and halos rate, PCO, depth of focus, contrast sensitivity analysis and overall satisfaction of the procedure were analyzed.


Mean post-op UCDVA and BCDVA was 1,0 and 1,1 (decimal), respectively. Mean bilateral UCIVA and UCNVA was J3,3 and J2,5 respectively. Only 20% of patients reported mild undisturbed glare and halo, 100% of patients were spectacle independent, 93% were satisfied or very satisfied, one patient presented PCO 12 months post-op. Surgery is simple, safe and predictable. The improvement after surgery of contrast sensitivity and visual function test - VF14 was statistically significant (p<0.05).


The implantation of polyfocal, bioanalogic intraocular lens is interesting option for patients who wants to be totally independent of glasses after cataract surgery. WIOL-CF brings back full, natural vision via combination of multiple mechanisms of action, that are similar to those of natural crystalline lens.
