The European Board of Ophthalmology was recognized by the American Academy of Ophthalmology for its strong and sustained partnership with the Academy in developing and formally endorsing the Basic and Clinical Science Course for use in Europe and for the EBO’s success as a certifying body at the opening session of the 2016 AA) Annual Meeting in Chicago, USA. Accepting the AAO Special Recognition Award on behalf of the EBO was board President Peter J Ringens MD, PhD, Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Presenting the award were AAO President William L Rich III MD and AAO Chief Executive Officer David W Parke II MD. The Special Recognition Award is presented to an individual or organization for outstanding service in a specific effort or cause that improves the quality of eye care. The recipient need not be an ophthalmologist. Past winners include the AAO Life Achievement Honour winners in 2015, and the Iraqi Ophthalmological Society and Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology in 2009.
