Abstract Details

To present clinical findings and related complications of three members of a family with bilateral microspherophakia.

Uludag University, Faculty of Medicine, Department of Ophthalmology

We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of microspherophakic lens dislocations of members of a family .

A mother and her 2 daughters were referred to our clinic and at initial examination, the mother (44-year-old) was diagnosed with microspherophakia in the right eye and aphakia in left eye. The older daughter (21-year-old) had band keratopathy in the right eye and the left eye had undergone lens extraction and iris claw IOL implantation in our department because of microspherophakic lens dislocation. The younger daughter (12-year-old) had microspherophakia in the right eye and band keratopathy in the left eye. Within one year follow-up, subsequent ocular complications and their treatments were evaluated.

Spontaneous lens dislocation in microspherophakia may cause serious ocular complications. For these patients, closer follow-up and necessary intervention have crucial importance.
