Abstract Details

Comparison of suture fixed flap to non-sutured flap after flap-lifted re-LASIK treatment patients in terms of epithelial ingrowth

Birinci Eye Hospital

Cases of LASIK enhancement surgeries with consecutively sutured flaps and non-sutured flaps were retrospectively reviewed. In suture performed patients, the sutures were performed on 3, 6 and 9 o'clock areas. Bandage contact lenses were applied for sutured flaps and sutures were removed 10 days after the procedure. All patients were followed for minimum 6 months after the surgery.

Seven eyes in non-sutured flap group and four eyes in sutured flap group were evaluated for clinically significant epithelial ingrowth (exceeding the flap margins 2mm or more). Five out seven eyes in non-sutured group developed clinically significant epithelial ingrowth. However, none from the sutured group developed clinically significant epithelial ingrowth.

Consecutive flap suturing for the secondary flap lifting, prevents epithelial ingrowth.
