Abstract Details

To describe the visual and refractive outcome of refractive lens exchange patients that have previously undergone corneal laser refractive surgery for myopia/hyperopia.

Optegra Eye Hospital, UK

Observational case series comprising data recorded between January 1st, 2015 and December 31st, 2017. 16 refractive lens exchange procedures were performed in patients that have previously undergone corneal refractive surgery (LVC). All procedures were recorded in an electronic medical record system. Complication rates and post-op visual acuity data a were summarised.

There were no reported operative or post operative complications. Binocular uncorrected distance visual acuity of 20/40 was achieved by 100% and 20/20 or better by 88% of patients. For binocular unaided near vision, N6 or better was achieved by 100% of patients. For binocular unaided intermediate vision N8 or better was achieved by 100% of patients.

Previous corneal refractive surgery is acknowledged to cause a less predictable refractive outcome after implantation of an IOL. This small study study shows that implantation of multifocal IOLs after corneal refractive surgery can lead to good results in terms of complication rates and visual outcomes.
