Abstract Details

To evaluate visual and optical performances of patients after implantation of a new Enhanced Depth of Focus Intraocular Lens (EDoF IOL) (AT LARA 829MP, Carl Zeiss Meditec).

IOA Madrid Innova Ocular, Madrid, Spain

38 eyes of 19 patients (mean age: 69 ± 6 years) underwent uncomplicated phacoemulsification and EDoF IOL (AT LARA 829MP, Carl Zeiss Meditec) implantation. The preloaded IOL was implanted using a BLUEMIXS injector. Postoperatively distance, intermediate (80cm) and near (40cm) visual acuity were measured 1 day, 1 week and 1 month after surgery. 1 Month post-operatively defocus curve (monocular) and patient satisfaction was further assessed. Patient satisfaction was evaluated with the help of a questionnaire using a score system between 1 (very bad) and 5 (very good).

At 1month post-operatively distance UCVA monocular was logMAR 0.08 +/ - 0.1 and binocular logMAR 0.01 +/- 0.08. The analysis of the defocus curve showed an extended range of focus with a VA better than 0.20 logMAR up to -2,0 D. Mean score for patient satisfaction from 18 questionnaires for far visual acuity (VA) was 4.66, for intermediate 4.58 and for near 4.22. 17 patients (89%) reported that they do not need to wear spectacles for any activity in their daily life and 94.4% of the patient would perform the same surgery again

The AT LARA 829MP provides excellent distant and intermediate vision with satisfactory near vision. Patients were highly satisfied with their uncorrected vision and the lens provided high rates of spectacle independence, enabling patients to conduct a wide variety of activities without glasses.
