Abstract Details

The evaluation of visual outcomes with new Extended Range of Vision Intraocular Lenses TECNIS SYMFONY implanted in micro-monovision configuration

Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland

Eighteen patients (30 eyes) underwent cataract surgery with implantation diffractive extended range of vision (EROV) intraocular lenses Tecnis Symfony (AMO, USA) in micromonovision configuration. Power of the IOL was calculated for emmetropia in one eye and for small myopia (-0.5 ± -0.75D) in the second eye. There were evaluated: binocular UCDVA, BCDVA, UCIVA, UCNVA, best reading distance (BRD), contrast sensitivity in photopic and mesopic conditions, independence from glasses, visual adverse effects, patient’s satisfaction (VF-14 test), defocus curve and postoperative complications. Follow-up examination were done 1, 3 and 6 months postop.

There were achieved an excellent results within the first month after surgery for far, intermediate and near distances, mean values 0,996, 0,89, 0,88 in decimal scale. BRD was 43cm, 85% treated patients became totally independent from glasses. Very good quality of vision achieved during the first month after surgery continued throughout the follow-up exams in 3 i 6 months. All patients were very satisfied with the outcome of the surgery. Contrast sensitivity measured in photopic and mesopic conditions were within the normal age limits. Defocus curve was linear between the far and near distances. No adverse effects were observed.

Implantation of intraocular lenses with extended range of vision in micromonovision configuration provides patients excellent improvement of visual function and increased satisfaction with the achieved visual results.
