Abstract Details

To analyze refractive changes and asphericity indices (Q values) before and after advanced monovision refractive surgery of 4 years follow-up at Ophthalmology Hospital of Anápolis.

Department of Refractive Surgery, Ophthalmology Hospital of Anápolis, Anápolis, Goiás, Brazil.

This retrospective study analysed cases of presbyopic eyes undergoing advanced mono-refractive surgery (F-CAT) with WaveLight® Allegretto Wave® Eye-Q Laser. Clinical information was collected, including visual acuity, refractive, follow-up time and Q values preoperatively and 48 months postoperatively in 44 eyes.

There were 22 patients (44 eyes) with mean age 50.14+5.47 years. The mean of uncorrected visual acuity (UVA), best corrected visual acuity (BCVA), astigmatism, add power, Q values and non-dominant eye uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA) before the F-CAT were 0.35+0.39, 0.99+0.01, -0.61+0.13 diopters (D), 2.08+0.08 D, -0.18+0.29, and 3.45+0.28, respectively. After 4 years follow-up, the mean values were 0.56+0.05, 0.93+0.02, -0.56+0.07 D, 1.19+0.15 D and 1.45+0.14, respectively (p < 0.05). The study showed that 86.4% of patients had a binocular UVA of 20/32 Snellen (0.63 decimal notation) and UNVA J2 (Jaeger chart) or better after the F-CAT.

Monovision is a method of presbyopic correction in which one eye is corrected for distance vision and the other eye for near vision. Clinical analysis showed a statistically significant difference between refractive changes and Q values before and after the F-CAT even after 4 years follow-up.
