To evaluate and compare ocular aberrations and accommodation amplitude using two different aberrometers in a normal population


Iladevi Cataract & IOL Research Centre, Raghudeep Eye hospital, Ahmedabad, India.


Prospective, observational case series in 100 eyes aged 18 to 40 years with no ocular pathology.Both ray tracing and pyramid wavefront aberrometry were performed in a random order in each eye by a single observer. Scans were captured in mesopic condition without pharmacological mydriasis. Root mean square(RMS) value (microns) for total eye aberrations, corneal aberrations and internal aberrations were compared with a distance fixation target. Subsequently, patients’ amplitude of accommodation was measured and compared by progressively giving a near fixation target upto 33cm.


Reliable measurements could be obtained for both aberrometers in all eyes. Mean pupil size was 3.4 ± 0.25mm. Analysis for RMS values of total, corneal and internal aberrations as well as accommodation amplitude ongoing. Results will be updated.


The new wave front sensor based aberrometer is comparabale / better to the existing rate racing aberrometry technique.
