Abstract Details

Chronic open-angle glaucoma is a common disease in the elderly population and therefore is frequently coexistent with cataract formation. While the combination of filtration surgery and cataract surgery is a challenging topic with limited success, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), like Xen Gel Stents, seems to provide promising results in glaucoma surgery even in difficult situation. 4 Surgical treatments can be easily combined with standard cataract surgery. Purpose: The aim of this study was to investigate the therapeutic success of combined Xen45 Gel Stent implantation with and without cataract surgery.

Ramoz Eye Hospital

111 eyes of patients with open-angle glaucoma (64 male, 47 female, mean age 67.9 ±years). • 72 primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) • 39 secondary open-angle glaucoma (SOAG) Underwent implantation of Xen45 Gel Stent (aqueSys, Inc., Aliso Viejo, California)-

Category 1 Target intraocular pressure (IOP) <18 mmHg without any local antiglaucomatous therapy or further surgical interventions after 6 month follow-up Category 2 Target IOP <18 mmHg after bleb needling during the follow-up period, but without local antiglaucomatous therapy Category 3 Failure (necessity of local antiglaucomatous therapy or additional glaucoma surgery Stand-alone, Xen45 Gel Stent N=81 1st category: total: 46.9% POAG: 57.4% SOAG: 33.3% Combined Xen45 Gel Stent with cataract surgery N=30 1st category total: 53.3% POAG: 46.7% SOAG: 60%

Combination of Xen45 Gel Stent implantation with cataract surgery does not increase therapeutic failure. MIGS using Xen45 Gel Stent implantation can be recommended in situations, if glaucoma surgery is indicated besides coexisting cataract formation
