Abstract Details

To investigate the visual and reftactive results after femtolasik surgery for correction of oblique and with-the-rule astigmatism and compare the visual quality.

Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital, University of Health Sciences, ISTANBUL, TURKEY

Medical records of patients who underwent femtolasik surgery between January 2016 and January 2018 in had been retrospectively reviewed. 41 patients who had longer than 3 months follow up time were included. The participants were divided into two groups according to the astigmatism patern. Group A included the patients with-the rule astigmatism and group B included the ones with oblique astigatism >1.5 Diopters(D) Patients’ preoperative and postoperative manifest refraction values, vector analysis results based on Alpins’ method and corneal higher order aberrations were compared.

Mean age of 25 patients in group A was 28.5 ± 8.2, 28.3 ± 5.1 in group B. (p: 0.915). Preoperative cylindirical power was -3.6 ± 1.2 in group A , -3 ± 1.1 in group B (p:0.433) and regressed to -0.6 ± 0.5 D in group A, -0.6 ±0.52 in group B postoperatively (p: 0.915). Preoperative, postoperative RMS, coma, trefoil, spherical aberration, secondary astigmatism values were similar between groups.. Correction index was 0.71 ±0.47 in group A, 0.66 ± 0.46 in group B.(p:0.683). Success index was 0.17 ±0.4 in group A, 0.22 ± 0.2 in group B (p: 0.684)

Our results indicate that femtoLASIK surgery is as effective in oblique astigmatism correction as it is in with-the-rule astigmatism based on the refractive results. Furthermore postoperative visual quality is also similar.
