Abstract Details

To evaluate the outcome after SMILE in myopia with moderate to high astigmatism

Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital, University of Health Science, Istanbul,TURKEY

Medical records of seven hundred eighty-eight patients treated with SMILE at Beyoglu Eye Training and Research Hospital, University of Health Science between January 2013 - 2018 were analyzed retrospectively. Forty-four eyes of 26 patients with ≥ 2.00 diopters (D) astigmatism were included. Preoperative and postoperative visual and refractive results were evaluated.

The mean patient age were 27.2±5.8 years. The mean uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA) improved from 0.07±0.04 preoperatively to 0.67±0.16 at last follow-up. (p<0.001) The mean spheric value decreased from -4.55±1.64 D preoperatively to -0.2D±0.35 postoperatively. (p<0.001) The mean cylindrical value decreased from 2.54±0.79 D preoperatively to 0.48±0.43D postoperatively. (p<0.001)

Our results indicate that SMILE procedure in myopic patients treated moderate to high astigmatism adequately. With additional applications during cyclotorsion, results might be better.
