Comparison of ocular biometric measurement using two biometers with different principles

Abstract Details


To compare the ocular biometric measurements using 2 different kinds of biometers (Swept source OCT-Tomey OA 2000 & Optical low-coherence reflectometry Lenstar-LS-900 Haag Streit).

Prospective, observational study. 100 consecutive eyes undergoing cataract surgery were measured with LS-900 and Tomey OA 2000.Nuclear sclerosis(grade 1 – 5), with or without Posterior Subcapsular Cataract were included.Biometric parameters - axial length (AL), keratometry (K1 & K2), anterior chamber depth (ACD), Lens Thickness(LT), Central corneal Thickness(CCT) were compared.


Axial length measurement was possible in 88% eyes with LS-900 and 98% eyes with Tomey OA 2000.The mean AL,K1,K2, ACD,CCT,LT in Tomey were 24 mm±0.35,43.28 D±0.25,43.42 D±0.31,3.21mm±0.25,517+-10u,4.25+-0.17mm.The same in LS-900 were 23.6mm±0.12,43.48 D±0.23,44.54D±0.15,3.10 mm ± 0.22, respectively. The difference in all biometry parameters in 2 groups were not statistically significant(p > 0.05)


Tomey OA 2000 had better penetration in dense/posterior sub capsular cataract, apart from this the biometric measurements were comparable in both the biometers.
