Abstract Details

To study various causes requiring IOL exchange, Interventions done and to assess postoperative outcomes.

Shri Ganesh Vinayak Eye Hospital, Raipur, India

Retrospective analysis of medical records of 36 eyes of 35 patients who underwent IOL exchange from January 2015 to July 2017 at a tertiary level institute in Central India. Pre-operative and intra-operative data of primary surgery was analysed. Post-operative visual outcomes after IOL exchange were also studied.

Most common indication in our study was de-centered IOL 56% (n=20). Most commonly performed secondary surgery [67% eyes (n=24)] was 3 piece IOL implantation in sulcus. Overall 3 piece IOL was used in 31 eyes (86 %). Postoperatively, 69 % eyes (n=25) achieved best corrected visual acuity of 6/12 or better in contrast to 31% (n=11) eyes having similar BCVA pre-operatively.

Properly centered IOL after primary surgery would alleviate the need for secondary surgeries like IOL exchange. Use of 3 piece IOL in sulcus during IOL exchange provides good visual outcomes.
