Abstract Details

To evaluate the visual, refractive, and patient satisfaction outcomes after cataract surgery with implantation of a unique EDOF trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) designed to compensate for the aberration of the pseudophakic eye in order to improve on the intermediate vision.

Vista Vision Centre, Verona, Italy

10 patients (20 eyes) with anterior corneal astigmatism lower than 0.5 D underwent cataract surgery with implantation of the hydrophobic glistening free EDOF trifocal FineVisionTriumf  IOL (POD L GF, PhysIOL SA, Liège, Belgium). One month or more after second eye surgery we evaluated the monocular uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuity, the distance corrected intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA) at 100cm,  and the distance corrected near visual acuity (DCNVA) at 40cm.  The achieved refraction, and the patient satisfaction (NEI VFQ-20 questionnaire) were also evaluated.

The mean age of the patients was 66.0±8.0 years. Postoperatively, LogMAR monocular UDVA, CDVA, DCIVA and DCNVA were 0.16±0.13, 0.04±0.08, 0.10±0.13, and 0.08±0.10, respectively.. The mean postoperative spherical equivalent was -0.19±0.38 D with 77% of the eyes within ±0.25D. The mean VFQ-25 score was 92.04±3.30. All the patients achieved spectacle independence.

The EDOF trifocal, FineVisionTriumf  (POD L GF) IOL provided effective restoration of visual function at distances from far to near after cataract surgery in this study. The visual acuity for the intermediate distance was particularly high. Good refractive predictability and excellent patient satisfaction were associated with the visual outcomes.
