Abstract Details

To assess the rotational stability of the hydrophobic, acrylic, single-piece AcrySof SN60WF in more than 100 eyes from end of surgery until 4 to 6 months. Besides that, decentration, tilt and visual outcome have been evaluated.

Department of Ophthalmology, Medical University of Vienna, Austria

121 eyes of 63 patients received an AcrySof SN60WF intraocular lens (IOL). As baseline the IOL position at the end of surgery at the operating table has been captured. Rotational stability of the IOL was evaluated after 1 hour, 1 week, 1 month and 4-6 months by taking retroillumination pictures. Decentration and tilt were assessed with a Purkinje meter invented by Schaeffel.

In 104 eyes of the initially 121 implanted IOLs rotational stability was assessable. The median rotation after 4-6 months was 1.1Â° degree [range:0Â°;15.8Â°]. 5 out of 104 IOLs showed rotation of more than 5Â° degrees. Decentration and tilt were comparable to other good performing IOLs.

The AcrySof SN60WF showed excellent rotational stability after 4-6 months. In 95% overall rotation was below 5Â° degrees. Nevertheless, 5 IOLs (5%) rotated more than 5Â° from their initial axis at the end of surgery. Maximum rotation observed was 15.8Â° degrees.
