Abstract Details

The intended comparison of biometric measurements and expected deviation from the refraction is obtained by A-scan ultrasound and AL-Scan.

Afyon Kocatepe University Faculty of Medicine, Afyonkarahisar, Turkey

Patients of cataract were operated in our clinic between January 2013 – April 2013 were analyzed retrospectively. Ultrasound biometry and AL-Scan measurements were taken of 34 eyes of 34 patients at the same session included in the study. Ocular and systemic findings of patients were recorded from the values of refractive error deviation by the devices like axial length (AL), keratometry (K1, K2), for emmetrope IOL power is recommended.

The mean age of the patient was 64.73±12.4 years (42-81 years). Measurements between (AL, K1, K2) by AL-Scan ultrasound biometry and predicted IOL power were not significantly different (p:0.41, p:0.35, p:0.92, p=0.52). Significantly higher correlation was observed (p<0.001) by the measurements taken by both devices. There was no statistically significant difference between the amount of expected deviation (p=0.54 ve 0.49) between the results waited for 1 week and 1 month of the two devices.

Biometric measurements shows high correlation received by AL-Scan and A-Scan ultrasound and biometric parameters, IOL power and expected values received by two devices was not significantly different from each other.
