Abstract Details

To report an unilateral localized corneal edema in a motorcyclist.

Department of Ophthalmology, Uludag University

A 49 year-old male presented to our clinic with the complaint of burning and itching for about a week. His uncorrected visual acuity was 0.9 ( Snellen) in his right and 0.6 in his left eye. The biomicroscopic examination revealed localized paracentral corneal edema in his left eye. The Pentacam showed localized increase in corneal thickness in left eye. He responded well to hypertonic saline solution. After 3 weeks, his symptoms were relieved. No corneal edema was noted.

Localized corneal edema may respond to hypertonic saline solution only without the need for any other medication.
