Anterior segment parameters in keratoconic eyes using Scheimflug imaging sytem

To evaluate corneal asphericity, corneal volume, corneal thickness, corneal aberration values and correlations among these values in keratoconic eyes using Scheimpflug imaging.

90 patients with the diagnosis of keratoconus were icluded in this study. Sirius® Scheimflug anterior segment examination device was used for measurements. Keratoconic eyes were divided into three groups according to the keratometry values. The following parameters were obtained: corneal asphericity (Q-value), corneal volume (CV), corneal thickness (CT), anterior and posterior corneal aberrations.


30 eyes had moderate (K=47- 52 diopters)keratoconus, 30 had severe (K=52- 60 diopters) keratoconus, and 30 eyes had very severe(K=60 or higher) keratoconus. Pearson correlation analysis found that there was an inverse correlation between CT, Q –value and keratoconus degree. There was no correlation between CV and severity of keratoconus. Anterior and posterior corneal aberration values were positively correlated with the severity of keratoconus.


CV was independent with the degree of keratoconus but CT, Q-value, anterior and posterior aberration values were releated with the degree of keratoconus.
