Abstract Details

To evaluate efficacy and safety of intravitreal injection of bevacizumab (IVB) at the time of cataract surgery on the short term postoperative progression of Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD).

Career Eye Hospital Isparta Turkey

Patients (M/F:8/10, mean age: 68.3±4,6) had phacoemulsification with intraocular lens implantation and 1.25 mg IVB at the end of surgery. Efficacy and safety measures included best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intra ocular pressure (IOP), optical coherence tomography (OCT), and ocular examination at postoperative 1 day, 1 week and 1 month follow-up visits.

Between the preoperative and postoperative controls, there was a significant increase in BCVA. Also, There were no significant differences in central macular thickness and IOP.

Combined phacoemulsification with IVB was safe and effective, in short term, for ARMD patients.
