Abstract Details

To investigate effect of preoperative corneal thickness on pachymetric changes in uncomplicated phacoemulsification surgery.

Ulucanlar Eye Education and Research Hospital.

A total of 44 eyes of 44 patient underwent uncomplicated phacosurgery were included in this study. Each patient with the same phaco technique and by the same surgeon. Pachimetric evaluatÄ°on were done preoperatively and one month postoperatively with the same noncontact pachymeter. The mean preoperative corneal thickness (CT) was 523.81(446-582 u) and postoperative CT was 533.15(446-574 u) . Patient were divided into two subgroups according to preoperative CT as follows: patient had CT less than 522 u were in Group 1 and equal or more than 522 u were in Group 2. CT changes were compared between two groups.

Group 1 had 20 and Group 2 had 24 patient. The mean preoporative CT in group 1 (G1) was 490.2 u and it was 551.8u in group 2(G2). The mean postoperative CTs were 499.2 u and 561.4 u in G1 and G2 respectively. The CT changes were 9.0 u in G1 and 9.6 u in G2 . The CT changes were not significantly different between two groups.

Even CT increasement was observed after uncomplicated phacosurgery it was insignificant and not related to preoperative CT.
