Abstract Details

To evaluate the efficiency of scleral fixed intraocular lens for the management of intraocular lens luxation.

Department of Ophthalmology, Fattouma Bourguiba University Hospital, Monastir, Tunisia.

Retrospective study including 16 eyes of 15 patients treated for intraocular lens luxation by scleral fixed intraocular. All patients underwent detailed ophthalmic examination and ultrasonography. Per and postoperative complications were recorded. Mean follow-up was 23 months.

Mean age was 40 years (range, 23-78). Nine patients (60%) were male. Intraocular lens luxation was the result of ocular trauma (7 eyes), cataract surgery complication (3 eyes), ectopia lentis (7 eyes), of them 3 eyes had microspherophakia. Mean final visual acuity was 20/32. Final visual acuity had improved in 95% of eyes. No peroperative complication was recorded in our series. Postoperative complications included retinal detachment (one eye) and acute postoperative endophthalmitis (1 eye). No case of secondary lens luxation was recorded.

Scleral fixed intraocular lens is an effective and safe technique for the management of intraocular lens luxation.
