Abstract Details

To compare the visual and refractive outcomes of FS-LASIK performed using FS200® (Alcon) versus Intralase® (ABBOTT) femto lasers, when used in conjunction with the same excimer laser (Allegretto®) to correct Myopia.

Clínica Novovisión, Madrid, Spain. Clínica Rementería, Madrid, Spain; Universidad de Alcalá, Alcalá de Henares, Madrid, Spain.

This retrospective study included 196 eyes of consecutive patients younger than 40 years. We compared 67 eyes treated with the FS200 (F) versus 129 eyes in which the procedure was performed using the Intralase (I). In both cases, the ablation was performed using the Allegretto excimer laser. Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), best corrected distance visual acuity (BCDVA) and refractive outcomes were evaluated 1 day, 1 week, and 1 and 3 months postoperatively. Only patients with a preoperative BCDVA of -0.08 LogMAR (1.2 decimal) were included.

No significant differences were found in the mean preop sphere (-3.95± 1,66D vs -4.00±1.66D) in groups I and F, respectively (p=0.8). UDVA was better in the I group at the one day and 1 week post op visit (-0.016±0.06 vs 0.05±0.112 and -0.033±0.058 vs 0.037±0.114) in groups I and F, respectively (p=0.0001). No significant differences were found in either the UDVA or in the BCDVA at one and three months post op. In fact, the UDVA at the 3 months post op visit was -0.051±0.051 vs -0.06±0.151 in groups I and F, respectively (p=0.4).

Both Alcon FS 200® and ABBOTT Intralase® (60KHz) are safe and effective in the correction of myopia (FS-LASIK) at least when combined with the Allegretto excimer laser ablation. In fact the visual results 3 months after surgery are equal in both groups. Nevertheless, a slightly faster visual recovery is seen when the corneal flaps are performed using the Intralase®.
