To define new dynamic terms to more precisely assess lens vault in eyes implanted with a hole-central phakic collamer intraocular lens (pIOL) for correction of myopia

For this prospective observational study we used a noninvasive Fourier-domain swept-source anterior segment optical coherence tomography system to dynamically evaluate the distance between the pIOL and the anterior chamber structures under changing light conditions. For each eye assessed, we measured vault interval (VI), defined by the values of central vault in maximum mydriasis and after light-induced minimum miosis, and vault range (VR), defined as the absolute difference between the VI values


The study sample comprised 39 eyes (23 patients) previously implanted with a pIOL with a central port for correction of myopia. A significant difference in central vault value was found when maximum and minimum pupil size were assessed under changing external light conditions (p<.001). The mean value of VR measured from scotopic to photopic light conditions was 167 ± 70 microns. The VR measured in eyes with low vault (<250 microns in miosis) was lower than in eyes with high vault (≥ 500 microns in miosis) (p<.05). Both pIOL models analyzed (EVO+ and V4c) had similar VR values


The dynamic parameters VR and VI may describe in a broader and more precise way the position and the behavior of a pIOL inside the eye
